What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels are treatments that contain active ingredients (usually mild acids) that remove the surface layers of the skin.

Are all peels the same?

No! Different peels use different chemicals to achieve the result desired. This will be decided on the needs of your skin, the results to be achieved, age and skin classification.

Some are one treatment only peels and others will involve a course of treatments. The one treatment peels tend to require downtime following the treatment.

The course of treatments  achieve the results over a period of time and require little or no down time.

What is involved in this treatment?

In many cases, this involves preparing your skin with a home care kit prior to the peel. The peel is then applied (normally in layers).

It may feel hot but do not worry, your aesthetic professional will ensure you have a fan to cool the area. This will make it more comfortable the for you.

When the expected response is achieved, the neutraliser is applied. This stops the peel from working. A cooling mask is applied to the area to hydrate the skin. Do not be concerned you will not be left alone at any time during the process.

The peel may also require an after care kit. You always need to use sun protection following a chemical peel.

How will I know what is the right peel for me?

You will have a full consultation with your practitioner. They will discuss your areas of concern and the outcome you desire.

How long will the treatment session last?

This is dependent upon the area treated and the chemical peel being used. To give you an idea, it is usually 30 minutes for small areas and up to 2 hours for some peels.

How often will I need treatments?

It depends on you as an individual and the peel being used. Some peels require a course of treatments Your practitioner will inform you of this. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you must make an informed decision.

How do I know the clinic is safe?

Always choose a qualified advanced Nurse Practitioner, Doctor or Dentist who has a minimum of 5 years working in the field of aesthetics to perform this, or any aesthetic cosmetic procedure.
